ELBERFELD IS AFTER SCALPS OF UMPIRES
Special to the Post-Dispatch - NEW ORLEANS, La.. Oct 1 -
Umpires, who have been the bane of Kid Elberfeld's life ever since he entered baseball, are going to be put on the pan by the Kid and Bob Allen when the Southern Association directors meet in December. Elberfeld says that the umpires during the season just closed have been in the habit of rubbing dirt on the ball before they threw it out to the pitchers and in otherwise roughing it and that this has helped the pitchers and hurt the batters.
Elberfeld says that several of the pitchers in the league have hit upon a new plan of putting notches in the ball and that he will ask that this be looked into. He mentioned several who used their finger nails to cut the ball and make ridges and said that these long fingered boys ought to be sent to other company or made to mend their ways. Elberfeld, although he finished in last place, probably made more money on the season than any other manager and says that next year he will give Little Rock a team that will either win the pennant or finish second. He announced that Rube Robinson will be back in the Little Rock fold and that he expected to have Zahniser, Graham, McCall and West as the nucleus of his new team.
