FANS' OPINIONS DIFFER
Some Would Keep Ganley and Others Bill Burns.
"A FAN" PICKS ENTIRE TEAM
Makes Cantillon's Work Easy by Selecting Line-Up and Giving Assurance It Will Be Winner - Would Trade Ganley and Shipke for Elberfeld - One Supporter Touches on Captaincy.
That there exists a wide difference of opinion among local baseball enthusiasts as to how the Nationals should be made up next season is almost daily demonstrated in the various communications received by the sporting editor from the supporters of the game here. As a general thing Burns and Ganley are the bone of contention_ One fan would retain one and let the other go, while others would not have either.
In no other business is advice so cheap. The manager of a ball team never has any trouble finding some one to tell him how to look after his job. It is one of the peculiarities that the game brings with it. A fellow may know little or nothing about the inside workings of a hail team, or hardly be familiar with the men on the team, yet he believes himself well qualified to tell just what ought to Le done to make the team a winner. The- following communication from `"A Fan" should do much to make Cantillon's work easy next spring. Not only is the Burns-Ganley feud disposed of in a twinkle, but the entire team is picked and assurance given that it will be a winner. Now what more can you ask? Here it is:
Fan Picks Team.
Sporting Editor Post: Here is some real dope on the Nationals. Let Cantillon play his team like this: Milan, center field; Elberfeld, third base; Deleahanty, second base: Unglaub, captain, first base: Clymer, right field: Blankenship. left field: McBride, shortstop; Burns, pitcher: Freeman. utility Infielder.Trade Ganley and Shipke for Elberafeld. Throw in Cates if necessary. Keep Burns by all means, as be is without doubt one of the best pitchers the team ever had. Let the pitching staff consist of the following men: Burns, Johnson, Hughes. Groom. Gray, Keeley. The above line-up is what you might call a real live baseball team, one that could win games at home -as well as on the road. There is not a dead one in the bunch. A FAN.
