Elberfeld Goes to Reds
DETROIT,MICH. August 22--President Vanderbeck wired from Milwaukee last night that he had perfected the sale of Shortstop Elberfeld to the Cincinnati Club. The terms of sale are not given. but it is understood that the Cincinnati Club gave a goodly bit of coin for the clever youngster, who was undeniably the best shortstop in the Western League.
President. Vanderbeck further wired that the fine of $100 assessed by President Johnson would be paid tomorrow and that Elberfeld would play his first game as a Red at Cincinnati tomorrow. Elberfeld's friends and they are legion, are pleased to learn that he is to be given a thorough trial in major league company. It is understood that Charlie Irwin will be sent to this city in Elberfeld's place: There is also a good slice of money going with Irwin to boot for the scrappy utility man. .
