August 14, 1899 - The Kansas City Journal, MO - Elberfeld going to Cincinnati article
THE KANSAS CITY JOURNAL, AUGUST 14, 1899.
Although Norman Elberfeld is at his home in this city taking an enforced vacation for his Queensberry argument with Umpire Haskell, he may be in the game again very soon." says the Cincinnati Enquirer. "His indefinite suspension from the Western League may result in the scrappy Cincinnatian getting into the big league. If the Cincinnati club intends to strengthen its infield as well as its outfield, why not put in a bid for this clever player? He has always made his mark as a utility man. He is good at short, third and second. The Chicago club may get him. Perhaps Vanderbeck can get his suspension raised if he can get him into the big league. Perhaps the Cincinnati club could frame up a deal with the Detroit president. Elberfeld's scrappiness should not injure his chances. He is not a rowdy or a tough. He is an intelligent, gentlemanly player, who is just a trifle overearnest in his endeavors to win."
