Philadelphia, April 19 - New York to-day defeated Philadelphia by the score of 4 to 2. The visitors were shut out until two were out in the seventh, when they scored three runs, enough to win the game, on Laporte's triple, Knight's single, passes to Demmitt and McIlveen, and Cree's single.
Elberfeld was taken sick during the game and retired. There were rumors that he had the smallpox, but there is no truth in the reports.
