Norman Elberfeld Fined and Suspended For Disgraceful Actions and Indifferent Playing
Special Dispatch to the Enquirer
Detroit, Mich., June 2 - After a conference with S. F. Angus today, Manager Barrow of the Detroit Baseball team handed Norman Elberfeld, king of the shortstops, a letter informing him he was fined $200 and indefinitely suspended. For disgraceful actions on the ball field June 1 he was fined $100 and for indifferent ball playing during the games on May 29 and 30 and June 1 he was fined $100.
"You have proved yourself ungrateful for the many favors extended to you, have utterly disregarded the rules and regulations, have refused to obey the orders of you Captain and manager to such an extent that we feel called upon to put a stop to it." said Manager Barrow.
"I thought he tried to lose some of the games while we were in the South, but said nothing about it," said the manager afterward.
This change will put McAllister at short for the Detroiters and Lush at third base. Yeager will be in shape to go into the game within a few days. A trade is already pending involving Elberfeld. The suspension will cost Elberfeld about $25 a day.
