Travelers' Boss Denies He is to Go on Coaching Lines

Kid Elberfeld will not be on the - coaching lines during the next baseball season. The announcement was made by the Kid, in answer to a story written by Bob Pigue, Memphis sports writer, Sunday, The Travelers' chieftain would like nothing better than to go on (he lines and "rag" the opposition. But this is the way it Is: The umps are not fond of the Kid and the minute he opened his moulh a fine and maybe a suspension would be plastered on him. The Kid knows this, too, all of which Is the main reason he will stay on the bench and do his "ragging." By remaining on the bench the Kid also can have an extra player.

Elberfeld is a generous gazabo. After reading a story in Sunday's Democrat telling that Dan Pfenneger. veteran ump,. will not go behind the bat next season, but remain on the bases, the Kid announces he can go President Martin one better. The Kid suggests that the clubs each give so much money and put Dan on a pension, so he-won't have to work at all. The Kid will donate $25 a month to ward a pension for the veteran, he says. Umpires make baseball- good ones make the game good and poor ones have the opposite effect. Dun is too old for the job, as was proven last season, and the Kid's suggestion is a good one.
