ATLANTA GRABS KID ELBERFELD TO KILL A TEAM
Does Not Want Him But Blocks Club's Plans.
Plans of the Little Rock Southern Association club to retire Norman Kid" Elberfeld as a player. but retain him as manager of the team have been blockaded by the Atlanta club. which refused to agree to the waiver asked, and set up a claim for Elberfeld's services at the waiver price, $3,000.
The move of Charley Frank in claiming Elberfeld has caused the greatest surprise throughout the Southern league and only Frank himself can set at rest the various rumors as to his actions.
It is known that the Chubby Dutchman likes the scrappy leader of the Travelers just about as much as the Allies like Kaiser Bill. Neither is his feeling toward President Allen of the Little Rock club any too friendly.
The action of Boss Allen in asking waivers on the Tobasco Kid were to make room for the appearance of a new
catcher, He planned to retire Elberfeld as a player and keep him as a bench manager.
Frank evidently sees when he can cause the Traveler gang a load of trouble by taking their leader. The
Travelers have been up in the race all season, due more than anything else to the peppery tactics and crafty tricks of the diamond veteran. Frank realizes this and apparently figures the psychological effect the absence of Elberfeld will have upon the team as a whole. Frank will be within the law in keeping Elberfeld on the bench. The foxy Dutchman knew this. and he evidently expects to see the leaderless Travelers hit the chute towards the bottom of the race.
