L. R. GIRLS WIN IN TENNIS MEET
Nan Elberfeld Stars Contest With Hot Springs--Locals Win Swimming Events.
Little Rock girls are winners in both the tennis and swimming meets with Hot Springs girls held here yesterday by the High School Girl Reserves of the Y. W. C. A. Miss Nan Elberfeld, who won the Little Rock High School tennis championship for girls last week, was the individual star of the day. She won the singles tennis event, played on the doubles team and featured in the swimming events last night.
In the singles Miss Elberfeld defeated Miss Sarah Hicock by taking two sets, 6-1 and 6-4 after losing the first, set, 12-10.
Miss Laura Wooldridge and Miss Elberfeld won the doubles from Miss Hicock and Miss Jean Smiley, 6-2 and 9-7.
Miss Elberfeld was awarded a gold medal and the winning team in the doubles received a silver cup which must be won three consecutive years to be held permanently. Hot Springs has issued a challenge and will try for the cup again.
The swimming program was held last night at Joyland. Little Rock scored 51 1-2 points to 39 1-2 by Hot Springs. Miss Delia Lock featured in the diving events and Miss Elberfeld and Miss Joyce Mitchell starred in the races and the stunt numbers. The local girls were awarded a pair of canoe paddles as the prize. The meet was in charge of Miss Clue Connor, secretary of the local
Y. W. C. A., who announced that similar meets will be held here annually.
