August 14, 1896 - The Public Ledger - Maysville, KY
"But these five would have won the game if Maysville had not gone up in the air in the third and subsequent innings. The locals had made two runs in the first, Renner being hit by a pitched ball and both he and Elberfeld scoring on the latter's drive along the right foul line for three bags. In the third with two men out, Douglass walked and both were safe on an error of Smith's fly to second. Fahey hit and two runs came in. McGowen reached first on Lautenbach's error, Conover walked and Renner was again hit by pitched ball, forcing Fahey in. This tied the score.
"Douglass hit in the sixth and scored on Cox's error in right. Two more runs came in in the seventh on a couple of hits and a muffed fly to left field, and two more in the eighth on a base on balls and all-round loose playing."
