Kid Elberfield Yet Wields Wicked Pair Of Clinched Dukes
Little Rock. July 15 -- Kid Elberfeld has won another decision in a fistic contest. He engaged in a short one-round brawl with Pitcher Ashley Pope, of the Mobile Pacers(?), and, according to almost unanimous vote, the Kid had the best of it by a wide margin. He left a hickey over one of Poe's eyes and cut his lips, according to ringsiders.
The trouble occurred while the Travelers were having hitting practice. Charley Fulton, another Mobile pitcher, was batting out flies when the Kid asked him to stop as the Travelers were at bat. Pope, from the bench, took up the argument and advanced toward the Travelers' bench. Here is the Kid's version of the affair.
"Pope challenged me. I challenged him to come over to my side of the field. When he arrived I asked him if he really wanted to fight. He said he did and I popped him. That's all there was to it."
