ELBERFIELD MAY QUIT
Says He Will Jump to Outlaw League If Disciplined.
Chicago, Aug, 22.—Baseball fans are waiting to see what will happen to "Kid" Elberfeld as a result of his trouble with Umpire McCarty on Sunday. Yesterday morning the entire New York American team with Griffith leading visited President Ban Johnson's office to make counter charges against McCarty, but Johnson was not home.
The Chicago papers predict that Elberfeld will get thirty days. If this happens Elberfeld says be will quit the league and play outlaw baseball. He has packed his togs in expectation.
"I'm sore on the whole league," said the "Kid." "and I was a lobster for not accepting the offer from John McGraw. I believe a fellow gets a better chance in the National. I don't want to put `Grif' to the bad, but if this umpire roasts me I'm going to quit."
