This fact has been brought home again by the retirement of Kid Elberfeld by the Washington club. Yet Elberfeld, with the rest of those who are slipping, can say that he went the route and had his measure of success with the majors. The Kid always was a fighter, always after a victory. He never quit, and will long be remembered as a player of the jennings type.
