BASEBALL MEN PUNISHED
Umpire Hurst. Manager Griffith, and Player Elberfeld Are Suspended.
After a week's deliberation President Johnson of the American League has come to the conclusion that ,Umpire " Tim " Hurst and Manager Clark Griffith were equally to blame for their clash In the Washington game at American League Park on last Monday week. for word was received from the headquarters of the league last night that both Hurst and Griffith had been suspended for five days. Elberfeld, the short stop of the Greater New Yorks, has also been suspended for three days for unruly conduct toward the umpire in a subsequent game.
The trouble between Hurst and Griffith occurred over a close decision, in which La Porte was declared out. Griffith 'vigorously protested against the decision and was ordered to the bench. This he declined to do, and Hurst took hold of him and attempted to lead him away. Subsequently the umpire made an effort to strike Griffith, and the latter was about to resent the attack when plyaers interposed and the playing of the game was resumed.
