JANUARY 15, 1944
NEVADA STATE JOURNAL,
`Kid' Eberfeld, Baseball Star of 43 Years Ago, Dies
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Jan. 14. (U.P.)--Norman (Kid) Elberfeld, 69, whose aggressive, colorful play in the major leagues at the turn of the century earned him the tag of "The Tobasco Kid," died yesterday of pneumonia.
Elberfeld played in the major leagues for 17 years for the old New York Highlanders, Washington, and Detroit, and later managed and played for various Southern Association teams.
Along with Wee Willie Keeler he changed the old-time swing hitting to place-hitting, which remained in vogue until Babe Ruth came along with home run slugging.
