Memorial Shaft for Elberfeld Is Proposed
Little Rock, Ark., Jan 18. (AP) - Sports Editor Orville Henry, of the Arkansas Gazette, proposed today in his column that Little Rock baseball fans erect a memorial to the late Norman (Kid) Elberfeld, who piloted the Travelers to their first Southern Association pennant in 1940.
"Little Rock owes a debt to Norman (Kid) Elberfeld," Henry said. "It is one that will grow larger with added interest; an obligation that should be paid in full while the memory of the volatile "Tobasco Kid" is still warm in the hearts of his followers.
"Elberfeld was a man of many cities and clubs, but we folks here feel that our share of his greatness has priority over all others."
