Like Lamb Now
NORMAN "KID" ELBERFELD
Fans of other days recall Norman "Kid" Elberfeld, affectionately referred to as the "Tabasco Kid" as the greatest "umpire baiter" in the game. As a shortstop of the Detroit club and later manager of the Yankees, an Elberfeld "run in" was a common thing.
But the veteran of close to 30 years of professional baseball has turned over a new leaf, and as pilot of the Chattanooga team in the SOuthern Association this season he's as meek as the proverbial lamb.
"You see I have five daughters," says the former major leaguer, "and they made me promise if I remained in baseball I would stop fighting. I've decided to keept he promise."
