When he was a young outfielder in the minor leagues, Casey Stengel's team had strict rules that forbade locker room fisticuffs. One day Stengel was pushed over a steamer trunk by a rambunctious teammate. When Stengel hopped up and hotly pursued his assailant, manager Kid Elberfeld wandered into the room and knocked out Stengel with a single jab to the jaw. "Don't you know?" Elberfeld said over Casey's motionless body. "Fighting isn't allowed in the clubhouse."
